Learning About Chinese Culture
Back to article list

6th February 2017

All the English groups are studying Chinese Tales this term with a focus on Mulan. They will be learning all their core skills with a project built around China.

Students will be looking at the culture comparing fashion and architecture as well as foods and landmarks. Some students have already learnt lots about the Chinese Zodiac and why we have different years named after animals. They have been using technology to translate Chinese into English and learning facts about The Great Wall of China.

Classes 3E and 4O have been making Chinese dragons and Chinese lanterns to coincide with their project lesson. Parents and Carers can help with this project by looking at films and stories based around China and their traditions.

There was a keen interest in the Chinese New Year celebrations that took place on January 29th in Manchester’s China Town. The students collated footage and facts into a short video to be included in the upcoming BBC School News Report in March.  The students have shown great courage to speak to camera and hard work in bringing the information together. The students learnt lots of new skills and had the opportunity also to use the green screen and the digital camera.
