National Galleries Takeover Day. #Kids in Museums.
A countrywide event where students are given the opportunity in galleries across the country to curate and host an opening of an art exhibition before it is open to the public.
A group of KS4 and KS5 students ran an event at the Lowry to promote the exhibition ‘Human’s Being Digital’. Haris, Michael and Luke wrote and delivered a fantastic welcome speech, Ninjlah and Declan did a fantastic job welcoming the guests at reception, later shifting their role to ‘art police’ to ensure no-one touched the art and all students learnt about each art piece so that they could ask and answer questions during the event. Shakira could explain what smells make up the perfume ‘Apocalypse’, Aaron discussed the infiltration of CCTV into our lives, Robert asked how we felt seeing our organs pulsating digitally outside our body and Rosie had to give a warning to the crowd as to how loud the giant bubble making horns would be! All students decided on the music, dress code and organised drinks and nibbles.
A representative from the Lowry sent this message ‘please pass on my congratulations again to group of young people, I thought they did a fantastic job’.
Well done to all the students involved and thank you to all parents, carers and staff who supported this fantastic event.
