Year 7 literacy and numeracy catch-up premium

Year 7 Catch Up Premium 2016/17

The literacy and numeracy catch-up premium gives schools additional funding to support year 7 pupils who did not achieve at least level 4 in reading and/or maths at the end of key stage 2 (KS2).

We expect to receive £11,000 to support and extend the achievement of our 22 eligible pupils.

The funding will be used as a contribution towards;

  1. Targeted interventions for Year 7 pupils by SALT (Speech & Language Therapist)

Details

Following the successful outcomes generated by this intervention in 2015/16, the decision was taken to repeat the programme with Year 7 pupils 2016/17.

Expected Outcomes

Improvement in Reading and across all strands of English including early communication identified via key assessment points throughout the year.

  1. Development of maths skills via the supported use of on-line learning tools

Details

Sumdog on-line maths programme is a motivating and exciting way for pupils to extend their maths skills. Support will be required to successfully introduce the year 7 pupils to the scheme.

Expected Outcomes

Improvement in numeracy skills including problem solving identified via key assessment points throughout the year.

Year 7 Catch Up Premium Evaluation 2015/16

The literacy and numeracy catch-up premium gives schools additional funding to support year 7 pupils who did not achieve at least level 4 in reading and/or maths at the end of key stage 2 (KS2).

We received £13,500 to support and extend the achievement of our 27 eligible pupils.

The funding supported the

  • Targeted interventions by SALT (Speech & Language Therapist)
  • Appropriate staffing to ensure small teaching groups and 1:1 support where necessary

Evaluation of impact

  1. Targeted interventions for Year 7 pupils by SALT (Speech & Language Therapist)
  • Improvement in Reading and across all strands of English including early communication
  • 100% of targeted pupils made progress in Speaking/Expressive Communication and early communication

 1:1 support for Year 7 pupils

  • Improvement in numeracy skills including problem solving
  • 100% of targeted pupils made progress in Number

 Year 7 Catch Up Premium 2015/16

This will fund the

  • Maintenance of targeted interventions by SALT (Speech & Language Therapist)
  • Appropriate staffing to ensure small teaching groups and 1:1 support where necessary

Year 7 Catch Up Premium 2014/15

There were 20 pupils in receipt of the £500 catch up premium giving us a total of £10,000.

This enabled the

  • Provision of appropriate resources, training and staffing to support teaching and learning for pupils with complex needs
  • Targeted communication interventions by SALT (Speech & Language Therapist)

Summer Term teacher assessments confirmed that all pupils in this cohort made measureable progress in English and maths and are expected to achieve their End of Key Stage targets.

Year 7 Catch Up Premium 2013/14

This Premium is allocated for individual pupils achieving below Level 4 in Reading and/or maths on admission. There were 13 pupils in receipt of Catch Up Premium at a total of £6,500.00. The funding has been used to support and extend achievement in Reading through the purchase of Kindles and iPads.

All pupils in this cohort made demonstrable progress in English and Maths.
