The Bigger Book Bash

As part of The Bigger Book Bash, Jane Kerr Author of ‘The Elephant Thief’ visited Melland High School to launch the short story challenge where pupils will have the opportunity to create their own piece of poetry ‘Meeting the Maharajah’ inspired by the opening page from Jane’s book as the character first sets eyes on an elephant. Selected entries will be filmed with the author and form part of the virtual reality story trail to be featured at the Bigger Book Bash Festival in Longsight on Saturday 1st July 2017.


Other activities include creating a large scale elephant cut out, Parade masks and costume making and invitations to Manchester Children’s Book Festival Family Day.


Melland High partner schools Stanley Grove Academy, Rushbrook Primary Academy and Cedar Mount Academy are also taking part in the event.
